Mission of the University of the Mountains to the Judicial Prisons of Chania

The University of the Mountains visited the Chania Judicial Prisons on Friday, July 18, 2014.

During the visit, 35 prison inmates and members of the guard staff were examined by Prof. I. Pallikaris, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology Mr. Efstathios Detorakis and a team of Ophthalmologists and Medical students.

Associate Professor of Neurosurgery Mr. Antonios Vakis and two other Neurosurgeons examined 10 prisoners, 2 of whom were urgently referred for surgery to PAGNI.

The Director of the prisons, Mr. Ioannis Klapakis, and the President of the prison officers’ union, Mr. Georgios Kontaxakis, offered a meal to the volunteers inside the prison.
