Mission of the University of the Mountains to the Municipality of Amari

The University of the Mountains also found a great response in Amari, Rethymno, with its volunteer groups on Friday, June 27, 2014. The love and gratitude, evident in the faces and behaviors of the excluded residents of Crete, fills the souls of all of us with strength, for the continuation of our volunteer work.

In collaboration with the clinics of PAGNI and VEMMO – Institute of Optics and Vision, of Ophthalmology, with Prof. I. Pallikaris, and of Social & Family Medicine, with Prof. Ch. Lionis, they examined about 85 resident patients, mainly elderly and children, in the village of Merona.

As always, the Mountain Cafes operated, with the men discussing issues of concern to the residents, livestock farming and agriculture, and with the women, the Penelope Gandhi Mission, home economics and the perfection of the unique authentic handicrafts of Cretan Weaving art, of great value and international recognition.
