Mission of the University of the Mountains to the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos

The University of the Mountains visited the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos on Friday, April 11, 2014, with its volunteer teams.

In the great village of Krousta, which continues to produce culture with an excellent Cultural Association, Mrs. Kalliopi Kourinou and all the other excellent ladies, Prof. I. Pallikaris, together with professors and doctors of other specialties with their teams, examined children, the elderly and needy residents of the wider area.

The innovative action of Peer Teaching was also implemented, with the Professor of Pedagogy of the University of Crete, Mrs. P. Kalogiannakis, between the students of the Primary School of Krousta and the 2nd Primary School of Agios Nikolaos.

Creative discussions took place with the women of the region, about the Sacred Art of Weaving, the production and processing of silk and the looms that are already weaving in Kroustas, unique authentic handicrafts of great value and international recognition.

With the men, the discussion focused on the traditional Cretan diet, arboriculture, the use of wool and the development of a small-scale, high-value economy.
