Mission of the University of Mountains to the Municipality of Platanias, Chania

The University of the Mountains , with Professor Ioannis Pallikaris and the teams of volunteer Mountain Doctors, with the university clinics of Ophthalmology-VEMMO, the Psychiatric Clinic, Radiology and Toxicology, visited the villages of Alikianos and Voukolies in the Municipality of Platanias, Chania, where they examined over 250 residents of the Municipality.

Also, today in the village of Kolymvari, Monday, September 24, 2012, the General Practice team headed by Professor Christos Lionis will examine the residents of the area.

In parallel with the medical examinations, the Mountain Cafes also operated.

At the Women’s Cafe in the village of Palia Roumata at 17:00, the assistant professor of Pedagogical Education at the University of Crete, Mr. Dimitris Karagiorgos, with the team of volunteers of the PtO and the Women’s Association of the village, met and talked about the  Penelope Gandhi Mission  The Sacred Art of Weaving in Crete Today.

For the last forty years, the thread of Weaving has been in danger of being lost. We want to take the end of this thread in our hands with the Penelope Gandhi Mission and walk the paths of the thread-meaning, which gives “the infinitely extensible”. The path that leads “to the feeling of serene certainty”, as is often heard in our land, Crete.

The inspiration and coordination of the Mission is Mrs. Varvara Terzakis. Important personalities of art and science from Greece, Europe and Asia, make up the Penelope Gandhi action team.

At the Men’s Cafe in the village of Dere, at 19:00, experiential knowledge met scientific knowledge. Professor Mr. Ioannis Pallikaris, Professor Mr. Athanasios Koutsolelos, Professor of the Technical University of Crete Mr. Dimitris Christakis and Mr. G. Dimitriadis, founder of Biolea, discussed with local residents issues related to the products of the region, energy and the environment.
