University of the Mountains – excursion to the Municipality of Agios Vasilios, Rethymno

The University of the Mountains , a member of the United Nations – Mountain Partnership – Food and Agriculture Organization , will visit with its scientific teams of volunteers, the village of Melampes in the Municipality of Agios Vasilios, on Friday, November 28, 2025.

The following actions have been planned:

• Flaxseed sowing at Spilio Primary School with the participation of students from Plakias Primary School.
• Peer-to-peer student teaching – pedagogical intervention of Spilio Primary School and Plakias Primary School.
• Medical Examinations , for vulnerable groups in the area, by professors of Medicine of the University of Crete together with groups of nurses and students.
• Cafe of the Mountains , open discussion with local residents, in the afternoon of the same day. Issues related to the family, the environment, the home and craft economy and self-sufficiency will be discussed.
