University of Crete – University of the Mountains: fast-paced training program in the profession of tour guide – Holy Monastery of Vossakou, Mylopotamos, Rethymno

University of Crete, University of the Mountains in joint action

The University of Crete – Department of History and Archaeology together with the University of the Mountains, on Friday, April 26, 2024, carried out an original educational action, within the framework of the fast-paced tour guide training program entitled “Interpretation and promotion of material and intangible culture”, at the Holy Monastery of Vosakou.
The volunteers of the Penelope Gandhi Mission, weavers, weavers, together with shepherds from Mylopotamos, sheared the sheep, washed and dyed their hair with vegetable dyes.
Then the wonderful weaver, Erini, spun cotton thread on the ancient walls of the Monastery.
How much gratitude we owe to all these volunteers for their tireless contribution!
We warmly thank the excellent Mrs. Nena Galanidou, professor of archaeology at the University of Crete and scientific manager of the program, we thank the students, the chaperones for their good cooperation and their love for the folk culture of our Crete.
This was followed by speeches by Prof. Mr. I. Pallikaris, Prof. Mr. I. Pyrgiotakis and Mrs. V. Terzakis Pallikaris, inspirer of the Penelope Gandhi Mission.
Respect and thanks to the Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Vosakou, Father Timotheos, for his kindness, hospitality and blessing.
He moved us all deeply and filled our souls with strength and faith.
