The Penelope Gandhi Mission – PtO, sowed flax in the spring of 2022 together with the Primary School of Spilio Rethymno and the Cultural Association of the village of Aktounta.
The flax was harvested and on Friday, February 17, 2023, a Peer-to-Peer Teaching was organized with the students of the 2nd Primary School of Rethymno and the Primary School of Spilio, where Mrs. Varvara Terzakis with the teachers of the schools, weavers of the area and volunteers of the Mission, showed the children how to make thread from flax.
At the same time, Prof. I. Pallikaris, together with a team of doctors and nurses, examined the school students ophthalmologically.
The Penelope Gandhi Mission, for the last 20 years, has respectfully held the end of the sacred Thread of Crete and implemented actions teaching the new generation the ethics of weaving art, together with our experienced master weavers.
Crete is considered the cradle of folk arts, a weaving land, where today an old world meets the new in a delicate understanding.
