The University of the Mountains thanks the volunteer professors of the University of Crete, the doctors and nurses, who dedicated their knowledge and time to the great expedition to the villages of Psychro, Agios Charalambos, Plati, Kaminaki, Avrakontes, Agios Georgios, Agios Konstantinos, Marmaketo, Pinakiano, Lagou, Farsalo, Tzermiado, Kato Metochi of the Municipality of Lassithi Plateau.
In collaboration with the clinics of PAGNI and VEMMO – Institute of Optics and Vision, Ophthalmology, with Prof. I. Pallikaris, Assoc. Prof. E. Detorakis and the team of volunteer doctors, Psychiatry with Prof. N. Paritsis, with Mr. I. Prassas and Mrs. K. Garefallakis, Neurosurgery with Assoc. Prof. A. Vakis and Mrs. K. Manolitsi, they examined and supported 100 residents, patients, children and the elderly.
At the Mountain Cafe, with the men in the village of Psychro, scientists from different fields of knowledge, Prof. Ioannis Pallikaris, Mr. Zach. Kypriotakis, Professor of Botany at the Technical University of Crete and A. Stefanakis, President of the Crete Geotechnical Society, discussed with the local residents issues related to the local economy and livestock farming with anxiety and a willingness to help in all the ways and means at their disposal, the people of the villages, so that they can stay and create in their place.
At the Women’s Cafe in the village of Psychro, local weavers met with the Penelope Gandhi Mission team, Mrs. Varvara Terzaki-Pallikari, and Mrs. K. Garefallaki and discussed with the women of the area, the value of handmade and weaving art in Crete, the Penelope Gandhi Mission, local techniques, xomblia and the culture of the loom.
