Municipality of Mylopotamos – University of the Mountains

July 1-31, 2017

Crete has held the thread firmly from the time of Minoan to the present day, with the  Penelope Gandhi Mission  setting up looms in all the villages of Mylopotamos.

The  Municipality of Mylopotamos,   together with the  University of the Mountains,  organize the  Yarn Festival  in the villages that border the sacred mountain of Psiloritis.

The  Festival  will take place from  July 1 to 31, 2017 , during which many activities will take place, relating to the sacred art of Cretan Weaving and the thread-meaning.

In Argasteria, the micro-saints-weavers will weave with their own Cretan threads, a pattern that has been the same since the time of Homer and Minos until today.

Sheep will be sheared, wool, linen and silk will be spun, and yarn will be dyed with flowers and plants.

Small studies of yarn will  be held in the villages of Mylopotamos, around Argasteria, where the weavers of each village will speak, as well as personalities of letters and the arts, Greeks and foreigners.

The top Greek woman, Mrs.  Eleni Glykatzi-Arveler , guide of  Penelope Gandhi’s team , will open the ” Filament Festival “, on  July 12, 2017  at  7:00 PM , at the headquarters of the University of the Mountains,  Krana , at the top of Ideos Andros.
