The University of the Mountains in the Municipality of Archanes Asterousia, Heraklion – Kazantzakis Museum

The University of the Mountains, a member of the Mountain Partnership – Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, continues its volunteer work steadily and with dedication, in Crete and throughout Greece.
On Thursday 14 and Friday 15 November 2024, the entire team of volunteers will visit the village of Myrtia in the Municipality of Archanes-Asterousia, Heraklion.
During this two-day excursion, the planned activities will take place, as follows:
On Thursday 14 Nov.
– Peer-to-peer teaching of students as well as Linseed sowing, with students and teachers, at the Primary School of Myrtia.
On Friday 15 Nov.
also in Myrtia, Medical examinations by professors of Medicine of the University of Crete with their teams, to vulnerable groups of the local population,
at the N. Kazantzakis Museum, in the afternoon of the same day, the Mountain Cafe will take place.
An open discussion with local residents, where issues concerning the people themselves, food, nature, water, self-sufficiency, violence in the family, local crops, livestock, tourism, home economics, cottage industries, the production and creation of plant and natural threads for the sacred art of Cretan Weaving will be discussed.
